Too bad they don’t make six disc DVD-RW changers

This morning I decided to download and burn a copy of the latest Ubuntu Linux beta. We have an extra PC sitting up on the shelf next to the 2003 Server and I figured I’d use it for something. When I hit the ‘Burn’ button in Nero, I was treated to a sound that one should only hear when watching an old horror movie.

My first thought, other than “oh god I’m gonna die!”, was that I would be needing a new DVD-RW. I hit the cancel button in Nero, but even before I was greeted with the friendly warning that “any response may be very slow”, I knew it probably wasn’t worth the effort to click on it but I did anyway. Then I grabbed a paperclip, straightened it out and jammed it into the neat little hole that all optical drives have on them. The drawer popped out just a little bit, and when I pulled it all the way open all I could do was laught at myself. I had been working with the lights off because Michele was still asleep and I inadvertantly slipped two disks into the drive.

Try it, you’ll love it!
