Three rules for storing important files…
September 16, 2005 – 5:49 pmBackup, backup and backup.
Unfortunatlely, keeping backups of everything can be quite expensive and logistically difficult when you have as much data as Michele and I had.
We lost approximately 400GB of stuff from two of our hard drives. Pictures, writings, software, music, ebooks, and various other files. Luckily my MP3 collection was on a seperate hard drive and is safe for the moment. Michele lost some of her homework. We both lost lots of documents. Feehh… ck.
So that’s where I’ve been for the past week. Steadily watching my sanity drift away as I realize the futility of recovering most of our stuff.
I managed to get some stuff back. Most importantly, my 6,500 or so pictures from my digital camera. Some of them are scrambled and useless but I got the bulk of them restored. I guess we need to just go blow about $600 on enough hard drive space to keep a full backup of everything.
