Maybe we should have gotten a P.O. Box after all

Several months ago, Michele and I suddenly became really excited about starting our own business. I’ve always wanted to own my own company and make my own rules and write my own paychecks, etc. But until this year I’ve never taken any of the steps beyond coming up with an idea and doing a bit of internet research.

She and I tossed around a few ideas for what we might be capable of doing. We hit the internet hard and did a good deal of research. We ordered tons of booklets from the IRS on how to properly manage our taxes. We applied for and received our very own LLC license.

And what has all of this gotten us? A veritable FUCK TON of junk mail. Every day I get at least two new credit card offers. About every third day, the business itself gets a credit card offer. Every seventh day or so, Michele who is listed as a partner of the company, gets one. We get offers for metered mail systems, business loans, employee insurance, office supply catalogs, business machine catalogs and so on. Just recently I’ve started getting phone calls from telemarketers trying to sell me a website for my business. I usually try to turn the sale around and offer to build them one cheaper.

Why, in all of our research, did no one tell us of this side effect?

What makes this slightly more strange is that we have yet to use our business license for ANYTHING. We have it, and that’s about the extent of it. I don’t even know how anyone aside from our friends could know that we have it.

Oh well. At least with junk mail, you never get that slightly disappointing feeling of having an empty mailbox. I have this fetish for checking the mail and my heart sinks when there isn’t anything in there. But those days are certainly few and far between now.

  2. YOu know man, no disrespect or anything because I consider you one of if not the smartest people I personaly know, but like, you should know by now, there are and always will be people that will know more about you then you yourself do. Mainly because of the fact that there’s money involved in knowing people’s life history for some odd reason, and as long as enough money is involved, even if it’s money that doesn’t exist yet, shit will happen.
