It’s like winning the cheeseburger lottery

September 19, 2005 – 10:57 pm

Why is it, when I go to a drive through fast food joint and order a cheeseburger with no tomato, then subsequently get a cheeseburger with no tomato, that I feel as if I’ve just won a prize.

And why is it, when gas shoots up to over three dollars a gallon for a week, and then dips back down to like $2.60, I suddenly feel as if I’m getting a great deal.

Conditioning is the answer. We Americans are conditioned to expect shit. Sad but true. We expect to get shafted day in and day out, and all too often our expectations hold true.

Expect more on this point.
